The Highlander Watcher Theme Icon and Cursor Set ================================================ OK, first admission, this isn't a full theme for Windows 95. So what is it? It's a set of desktop icons and cursors. The icons and animated cursors use the Watcher symbol from "Highlander - The Television Series" and the static cursors are a fairly standard set, but using the blues and greens of the Clan MacLeod tartan as seen in the series. The cursors can be installed by anyone with Windows 95, but the desktop icons require the Windows 95 Plus! software. Great idea, develop an operating system and then charge extra for the fun bits.............. A Windows 95 theme provides a Screen Saver, desktop wallpaper and sound set as well. I can't provide a screen saver, currently, but there are a large number of 640x480 JPGs available from my Highlander website at http://homepages.enterprise.net/edmonds/highlander.html and I would be loath to pick just one - go see and pick your own wallpaper. I change the Episode of the Week page weekly, (there's a surprise!), and there are always 12 full size images to pick from and I have a monthly Calendar as well. As for sounds - there are so many good ones on the Web already that I'm not going to presume to compete. How to do it ============ I would suggest printing this file out for ease of reference. First, download the file containing the icons and cursors. There are two files available - a .ZIP file (7KB) or, for those who do not have the ability to UnZip files, a self-extracting .EXE file 29K in size. The .EXE will self extract into your C:\Windows\Temp directory. I would suggest creating a directory to house the 17 icons and cursors and copying them into it. That way, you can easily delete them once the novelty has worn off. 1. Setting Up The Cursors -------------------------- Go to the CONTROL PANEL and click on the MOUSE Icon. Click on the POINTERS tab. For each cursor, click on the cursor you want to change, then click BROWSE.. and point into the directory where you have unpacked the cursors. Click on the replacement cursor and that's all there is to it. When you've finished picking the ones you want, you can save them as a SCHEME, using the Save As... option. Click on OK and that's half the job done. Below is the list of cursor file names against the descriptions: File Name Windows Name --------- ------------ HL wait.ani Working In Background HL busy.ani Busy HL arrow.cur Normal Select HL beam.cur Text Select HL cross.cur Precision Select HL help.cur Help Select HL move.cur Move HL no.cur Unavailable HL pen.cur Handwriting HL Size NESW.cur Diagonal Resize 2 HL Size NS.cur Vertical Resize HL Size NWSE.cur Diagonal Resize 1 HL Size WE.cur Horizontal Resize HL up.cur Alternate Select 2. Setting Up The Icons ----------------------- From the CONTROL PANEL, click on the DISPLAY Icon, then click on the PLUS! tab. Select the Icon you want to change, then click on BROWSE.. and go to the directory where you have unpacked everything. Pick the right icon, (sorry, no Network Neighbourhood), then once you've changed 'em all, click on OK. And that's it. Hope you like the "theme".
